✅ As you become more confident in flying your drone, you may fly without checking the basics, which can lead to mistakes. To ensure a safe and successful drone flight, pilots should go through the checklist below to make sure everything is in order before flying: the drone is working properly, the battery is in good condition, other accessories are in order, etc.
💡 TIP
- Print out your pre-flight checklist and keep it with you in your drone's box so you always have it handy.
- Make this pre-flight checklist a habit to ensure a safe and successful drone flight.
The pre-flight checklist is listed below.
1. Check for no-fly zones and flyable areas
- In Korea, you can find out where drones are prohibited from flying through Drone One Stop (click here).
- You can view each runway or flight-restricted area on the DJI homepage or within the DJI Flight app.
2. Check the environment at the takeoff and landing point
- Make sure the environment at the takeoff point is level and safe before you start flying.
- We recommend doing this in an unobstructed environment within a 5 meter radius of the takeoff and landing point.
3. Appropriate weather for the flight
- Check the weather to make sure the area you're flying to has good weather. High winds, low clouds, or precipitation can adversely affect your flight and mapping results.
4. Identify obstacles and terrain features in the area you plan to fly.
- Check the elevation of tall objects (buildings, cranes, etc.) within the path area.
- Although drones have obstacle detection sensors, they sometimes fail to recognize thin, linear objects such as transmission towers, power lines, and cranes, which can cause the drone to crash or fall.
- As construction progresses, cranes may need to reach higher and higher altitudes. Check it one more time before you fly.
5. Remove the camera gimbal protector
- Remove the camera gimbal protector.
6. Check the propeller for breakage and tightness
- Check the propellers for damage and make sure they are fully attached to the drone's fuselage for a successful flight.
- Carrying a spare propeller for your drone will help you keep flying if your propeller is damaged in flight.
7. Check the connection status with the controller device (all-in-one drone/smartphone / iPad)
- You can see the supported drones and devices here.
8. Power on the controller and upright the antenna
9. Check the drone battery engagement
10. Power on the drone battery
- You should always have at least one fully charged battery for your flight, but we recommend two spare batteries for longer flights.
11. Check the connection between the drone and the controller
12. Check IMU status and Compass status
- Before using your drone, check it for damage to ensure it is ready to fly and safe.
- Make sure that your compass is calibrated and that you have a good GPS connection.
- Perform a reset calibration on turbulence.
13. Check GPS reception status
- Make sure you've switched to GPS mode.
- Make sure you have a good satellite signal (we recommend flying when you have at least 7 signals).
14. Check camera settings
- Make sure your resolution, aperture, etc. are set correctly. If there are any abnormalities, we recommend resetting the aircraft camera settings.
15. Set up Home Point and confirm recognition
16. Set and verify return home altitude (check for nearby tall obstacles, etc.)
17. Check SD card storage space
- Always format your SD card before your flight and make sure you have enough storage space for your images to avoid issues with image capture.
💡 If the pre-flight checklist continues to fail, try the following
- Restart all devices
- Unplug and reinsert the USB cable when you see failure
- Toggle the controller's mode switch
- Check DJI app: Multi-Flight Mode = on, Beginner Mode = off
- Test using different mobile devices
